12月のジュネーヴのお祭り「エスカラード」

こんばんは、FESスイス留学センターです。
12月と言えばクリスマスですが、ジュネーヴでは、毎年12月中旬に「エスカラード」という伝統的なお祭りが開催されます。17世紀に同市がサヴォイ公の襲撃を阻止したことを祝ったことが起源で、当時の衣装に身を包んだ人々のパレードや、ホットワインやスープ、お菓子の屋台などで賑やかな雰囲気となります。今年は本日12月11日から13日までの間です。

We all know that December’s biggest festivity is Christmas, but in Geneva, there’s another festival “L’Escalade” in mid-December. Held from today (Dec 11) to Dec 13 this year, the festival celebrates the defeat of the surprise attack by troops sent by Duke of Savoy in the early 17th Century. During the celebration, there are parades by people with historical costumes, stalls and stalls of mulled wines, soups or confectionaries, creating a historical and festive atmosphere.
